26 Battalion Association
The 26 Battalion Association was formed in September 1991 and was originally headed by the President, Keith Miles with Vice Presidents Joe Seller and Bob Gaudion.
Before forming the Association, several social meetings were held at Joe Sellen's home in Wynnum (Qld, Australia), which promoted a lot of interest; this was followed by a reunion at Charters Towers, North Queensland, Australia, in 1986 with a roll up of approximately 35 members. As a result of these meetings, other reunions took place at Rockhampton (Qld) which became an annual event where membership grew considerably.
In May 1992 a record number of members and their wives and friends attended. At this reunion, the 26 Battalion Association was proud to release the history of the 26 Battalion in a book titled, Never Unprepared: a history of the 26th Australian Infantry Battalion (AIF) 1939-1946, by A.N. Turrell which sold in every state of Australia, and later in 2008 it was reprinted.
The proceeds of the book and donations made it possible to provide Honour Rolls in some capital cities, as well as the tree plaque at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne and a plaque in the picturesque Kings Park, Perth, Western Australia.
